Religious Concepts to be Topic at Symposium
Atlanta – In an effort to make students aware of their
religiously diverse community, the Rich Foundation Urban Leadership
Program of Oglethorpe University is hosting a symposium designed to
initiate an inter-faith dialogue. “Conceptions of the Common Good”
will be held on March 29, 2000 and will concentrate on various
religions including Judaism, Non-theism, Islam, Hinduism and
Christianity. The panel will consist of representatives from each
religion.
Developed by student members of the program, the symposium will
address religious, philosophical, and practical applications of
various conceptualizations of the common good. In addition to the
religious panel, the students will also address a philosophy panel,
which will explore traditions from the Ancient Greeks to
contemporary philosophy. After the symposium, a civic fair will be
held to illustrate practical applications of the “common good.” The
Civic Fair will feature the Salvation Army, United Way, League of
Women Voters and other community-based organizations.
The Rich Foundation Urban Leadership Program is a co-curricular
certificate program of Oglethorpe University. Members complete three
required courses that bridge the academy and the city.
