Oglethorpe University Singers Slide into
Spring!
Atlanta – What do a German composer, an American
anniversary and a South American rainforest have in common? They are
all represented in an eclectic spring concert at Oglethorpe
University.
The Oglethorpe University Singers and University Chorale will
present their spring concert conducted by Dr. W. Irwin Ray in the
Conant Performing Arts Center Friday, April 14 at 8 p.m. at
Oglethorpe University.
The concert will be divided into three segments. Music for the
Season of Lent will feature selections from Schuetz, Bach, Billings
and Graun. The next section will be a special honors presentation by
senior Lainie Wilson. Wilson, who recently traveled to South
America, will lead the selected ensemble in Songs of Argentina and
Colombia. The final segment will be An Aaron Copland Celebration.
The groups will celebrate the life and music of American composer
Aaron Copland on the occasion of the centennial of his birth.
The Chorale, the University’s chamber choir, will sing madrigals
and chansons from the renaissance plus one selection by the
hysterical P.D.Q Bach. Additionally they will perform a delightful
Swedish song, Tjuv och tjuv, det ska du heta.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Oglethorpe University is an independent, highly selective,
coeducational liberal arts institution located in Atlanta. For more
