Cason Brings Expertise to Oglethorpe
Atlanta – Chris Cason of Atlanta assumed the role of
director of public relations at Oglethorpe University yesterday
after spending three years as director of public relations at
Spelman College. At Oglethorpe, Cason will be responsible for all
aspects of the university’s media relations, marketing, advertising,
publications, community relations, special events and creative
services. Cason replaces Roby Hill who joined GCI Group of Atlanta
as an account supervisor.
“I look forward to working with Chris and l anticipate that his
creativity and writing skills will give Oglethorpe a fresh, bold
look,” said Interim Vice President for Advancement Diane Gray.
Cason graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor’s
degree in journalism. After serving in the United States Air Force
for four years, Cason went to work for The Prince George’s Journal
as the education writer. In 1993, he joined Prince George’s County
Board of Education in Upper Marlboro, Maryland as the supervisor of
public affairs and communications where he served as the
institution’s spokesperson and chief media relations representative.
In 1997, Cason moved to Atlanta and headed the public relations
department at Spelman College. As director of public relations,
Cason succeeded in securing local, national and international print
and broadcast news coverage of Spelman’s programs, activities and
profiles.
Oglethorpe University is an independent, highly selective,
coeducational, liberal arts institution located in Atlanta at 4484
Peachtree Road. Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is dedicated
to producing graduates who are broadly educated in the fundamental
fields of knowledge and the basic concepts and principles of their
disciplines. During the 1999-2000 academic year, Oglethorpe enrolled
1,230 students representing 32 states and international students
from 31 countries.
