Award-winning Julliard Graduates to Perform at
Oglethorpe University
Triode Chamber Trio to Perform on February 19
Atlanta – Triode Chamber Trio will perform at Oglethorpe
University on Tuesday, February 19 at 8 p.m. in the Conant
Performing Arts Center. This exciting new trio consists of three
award-winning Julliard graduates who will perform music by
Racmaninov, Mendelssohn, Villa-Lovos, Gaspar Cassado and Astor
Piazolla on the piano, violin and cello.
Relatively still a nascent ensemble, Triode, aside from exploring
the traditional repertoire for piano trio, has been delving deep
into the classical music treasure trove in search of interesting
extant music that can be arranged effectively for piano, violin and
cello.
One of the outstanding pianists of his generation, Albert Tiu has
an eclectic repertoire ranging from Sweelinck to Stockhausen and
from Bach to Bolcom. He has won several awards, among them the first
prize in the UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria,
South Africa; the second prize in the Esther Honens Calgary
International Piano Competition; and the Juilliard William Petschek
Award, which resulted in a New York debut recital in Alice Tully
Hall.
Joseph Esmilla began the study of the violin at age five with his
father, Sergio Z. Esmilla, Jr. At 14, he was awarded a scholarship
to The Juilliard School where he eventually received his Bachelor of
Music and Master of Music degrees under the tutelage of Dorothy
DeLay, Masao Kawasaki and Jens Ellerman. During his post-graduate
studies in violin and chamber music with Felix Galimir at the Mannes
College of Music, he won their concerto competition and performed
the Bruch G Minor Concerto. The concert was broadcast by WQXR in New
York City.
Sean Katsuyama, a native of Dayton, Ohio, began his cello studies
at the age of fourteen. Within five years he enrolled at the
Juilliard School earning both his Bachelor and Master of Music
degrees as a student of Harvey Shapiro. Upon graduation, he joined
the Lumina String Quartet with whom he concretized throughout New
York, Connecticut and the Ukraine.
General admission is $10. Call 404-364-8446 for information.
