Karen Anthony Receives Three Awards at
Convocation
Atlanta - Karen Anthony, senior at Oglethorpe University,
won the Margaret Floy Washburn Award at the annual Honors and Awards
Convocation held on April 17 at Oglethorpe University. The Margaret
Floy Washburn Award is presented to an outstanding senior psychology
major. A student of E. B. Titchner, Margaret Floy Washburn was the
first woman to receive a Ph.D. in Psychology (1894, Cornell). She
went on to teach Psychology at Wells College, the University of
Cincinnati and Vassar. In 1903, she was listed as one of the 1000
most important "men of science."
Karen was also named to the prestigious list of Who’s Who Among
Students in American Universities and Colleges and received a
Certificate of Urban Leadership for her completion of the Rich
Foundation Urban Leadership Program. The Program provides structured
opportunities to address actual community problems by applying
principles learned in curricular and co-curricular experiences.
Karen, a senior communications major, is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Anthony of Americus, Ga. and attended Southland Academy.
Providing a superior education in the liberal arts, Oglethorpe
University is located in the heart of Brookhaven, just north of
Buckhead. The university is a highly selective, independent,
co-educational institution that enrolls approximately 1,200 students
each year. Oglethorpe’s students represent the best of their
graduating classes, with an average GPA above 3.6, and average SAT
above 1,200. Following graduation, students often go on to the best
graduate schools in the nation. Recent placements include Cambridge
University, Columbia University, Duke University, Harvard
University, Johns Hopkins University, Princeton University and Yale
University.
