Students Embark on New Year
Atlanta - Sporting posters and compact discs, futons and
husband pillows, freshman will move into residence halls at
Oglethorpe University this Friday, August 23, 2002. Classes begin on
August 28. The office of community life is busy organizing
icebreaker parties such as picnics and ice cream socials, professors
are finishing up their syllabi for class, and sororities and
fraternities are practicing their rush techniques. It’s the
beginning of fall and it’s filled with nervousness and anticipation,
adventure and apprehension, especially for the freshmen.
"The beginning of the academic year has always been my favorite
season,” said Monica Moody, director of residence life. “The
collegiate atmosphere, coupled with new and eager faces, makes one
realize that the quest for a higher pursuit of knowledge will always
be a part of our lives."
“Oglethorpe’s incoming class hails from 19 states and 11
countries,” said Director of Admission Barbara Henry. “They bring to
campus strong academic backgrounds and leadership skills that will
add to our rigorous academic community.”
