Author Sena Jeter Naslund to Speak at
Oglethorpe University Atlanta – Sena
Jeter Naslund, author of "Ahab’s Wife" and the recently released and
highly acclaimed "Four Spirits," will speak at Oglethorpe University
on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The event, sponsored by Oglethorpe Women’s
Network, will feature Naslund talking about writing her book, a
fictional account of Birmingham, Ala., during the height of the
civil rights movement. She also will read some selections from the
book. The four little girls killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church
bombing are the "four spirits" who link the voices of the book’s
characters. "This is a story that’s been brewing in Sena's heart and
mind since her coming of age in Birmingham during those tumultuous
years," says Susan Soper, event organizer and Oglethorpe Board of
Trustees member. "It’s told through several perspectives, including
hers so we get the various impacts of this part of our civil rights
history. Plus, this is an off-the-book-tour stop in Atlanta so we
are very fortunate to have Sena make this special appearance on our
campus." The event will be in Lupton Auditorium,
which is located at Oglethorpe University at 4484 Peachtree Road NE,
Atlanta. Admission is free. Call 404.364.8329 for more
information.
