Oglethorpe University Dancers Take 2nd Place
at Dance Nationals
ATLANTA - After receiving a bid to compete in the WCA
Cheerleading and Dance Nationals for the third year in a row, the
Oglethorpe University Dancers were on a mission.
The team practiced their nationals routine for approximately 250
hours and it paid off on Dec. 28 when they performed this piece at
the WCA Cheerleading and Dance Nationals competition in Nashville,
Tenn. The team was noted as one of the "Fifty Teams to Watch" at
this year’s competition. In their division, 15 teams were invited to
compete and only seven moved on to finals.
The team entered the finals in fourth place but received a second
place trophy at the awards ceremony. Lauren Montagno, the team's
coach and choreographer, raved, "I am so proud of the girls and how
well they executed the dance - especially at finals. They are the
best team I have ever worked with and I am so happy that they were
rewarded with such a high honor."
The OU Dancers will perform their award winning nationals routine
at the Oglethorpe University’s homecoming basketball games against
Trinity College on February 20. The women’s team play at 6 p.m. and
the men’s team play at 8 p.m.
