Oglethorpe University Museum of Art Displays
Permanent Collection
ATLANTA
– Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (OUMA) is currently featuring
selections from its permanent collection on display now through
Sunday, March 14, 2004. The permanent collection consists of fine
art collected over the last 18 years and represents the museum’s
mission statement of exhibiting international, realistic and
spiritual/metaphysical art.
The permanent collection incorporates works of art originally
featured in OUMA’s past exhibits including "Four from Madrid:
Contemporary Spanish Realism," "The Spirit and the Flesh:
Contemporary American Realism," and "The Many Faces of Buddha."
Special patrons of OUMA have also helped the collection to grow
through the years by donating art work. Donated works include an
etching by Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, formerly in the Vincent
Price Collection, and a watercolor by Sondra Freckelton in addition
to a woodcut print by Conrad Felixmuller donated to OUMA by the
Lindenau-Museum in Altenburg, Germany after their collaboration on a
German Expressionism exhibit.
Each work, from Richard Maury’s enigmatic "Dining Room and
Corridor" to OUMA’s 14th century Japanese Kamakura Buddha, echoes
the special magic which reflects the exhibits that OUMA continues to
present.
