Oglethorpe University Singers and Chorale to
Present Spring Concert
What: The Oglethorpe University Singers and University
Chorale will present their Spring Concert entitled “Celebrating the
Roots of American Music.” Dr. W. Irwin Ray, director of musical
activities at Oglethorpe, will conduct the concert; Oglethorpe
artist-in-residence David Buice is pianist for the performance.
When and Where: Friday, April
16, 8 p.m. at Conant Performing Arts Center

Featuring: The concert is a sonic panorama of musical
styles and genres from colonial America to the twentieth century --
music that encompasses America’s heart and soul. The evening of
American “roots” music includes folk songs, black and white
spirituals, fuging tunes, minstrel songs, selections from the
Moravian and Shaker traditions, musical theatre and songs from Tin
Pan Alley. Featured composers include John Jacob Niles, Christian
Latrobe, Aaron Copland, Thomas Arne, Charles Ives, Stephen Foster,
Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Thomas Arne, Harry
Burleigh and Hoagy Carmichael, and Alice Parker.
The Conant Performing Arts Center is located at
Oglethorpe University at 4484 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta. Admission
