Oglethorpe University Golfer Named to U.S.
Team for U.S. vs. Japan Matches Senior Trent Erb to compete
July 13-16 in Chiba, Japan
ATLANTA - The Golf Coaches Association of American (GCAA) recently
named the United States Team for the 2004 Fuji Xerox U.S.A. vs.
Japan Collegiate Golf Championship. The 12-member squad will
consist of eight men and four women collegiate players. The event
will be held July 13-16 at Taiheiyou Club Ichihara Course in Chiba,
Japan.
Trent Erb of Oglethorpe University is among the players named to
the team. A senior from Athens, Ga., Erb is the two-time Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was a 2003
Division III PING All-America selection. The only NCAA Division III
player selected for Team USA, Erb will represent his division in the
U.S. vs. Japan matches.

“I am honored to be selected for the team by the GCAA,” says Erb,
“and look forward to the opportunity to represent the U.S. and
Oglethorpe in Japan. What better way to cap off my collegiate golf
career and senior year at Oglethorpe than with this experience!”
“Trent Erb is the epitome of the scholar-athlete,” says
Oglethorpe University President Larry D. Large. “He represents the
best of inter-collegiate athletics. He proves the point that being
an amateur doesn’t compromise performance. Moreover, Trent is a
model citizen on the campus who reflects our promise to our students
that they will learn to make a life, make a living, and make a
difference.”
Additional men selected for the U.S. Team include Kentucky’s John
Holmes, J.J. Jakovac of Chico State, Colorado State’s Nolan Martin,
Indiana’s Jeff Overton, Michael Putnam of Pepperdine, Minnesota’s
Justin Smith and Peter Tomasulo of California.
The women’s team consists of Kailin Downs of New Mexico, Duke’s
Anna Grzebien, UCLA’s Charlotte Mayorkas and Brooke Tull of TCU.
Team USA leads the U.S.A. vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championship
series, 21-7, and has won eight consecutive competitions.
