Oglethorpe Men’s Golf Team in Fourth Consecutive NCAA
Championship
Team Places Ninth in Nationals; Senior Trent Erb Named Player of
the Year
ATLANTA – For the fourth consecutive year, the Oglethorpe
University men's golf team earned a berth into the 2004 NCAA
Division III Championships held in Beaumont, Ca., May 10-13. The
four-round tournament took place at the PGA of Southern California
Golf Course at Oak Valley.
This year’s bid marked the team’s sixth NCAA National Tournament
bid in the last seven years. The team left the tournament with a
commendable ninth place finish this year. At the 2003 Championship,
the team finished sixth landing its best-ever finish in four trips
to the Nationals.
Additional honors during the tournament included the team’s top
player Trent Erb recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of
America as an individual award winner for Division III men’s golf.
Erb received the Nicklaus Award presented by Dillard’s, Inc. and
Hartmarx Corporation. This award is presented to the national
college player of the year. A senior from Athens, Ga., Erb won three
tournaments during the season. He also finished in the top five
eight times and the top 10 nine times in the 12 tournaments in which
he competed.
