Oglethorpe Golfers Named to PING All-America Teams
Trent Erb and Joe Green Honored by Golf Coaches Association of
America
ATLANTA — The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) recently
named the PING First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention
All-America Teams. Among selections for the teams were two golfers
from Oglethorpe University. A senior from Athens, Ga., Trent Erb was
selected for the All-America First Team. Sophomore Joe Green from
Jacksonville, Fla., was selected for the All-America Second Team.
One of the most widely-recognized awards in amateur golf, PING
All-America Teams have been honored since the GCAA was founded in
1958. Many of college golf's greats have been selected to the PING
All-America Teams over the years.
The GCAA All-America Committee selects players based upon their
performance throughout the academic year, including the NCAA
Championships. To be named to the PING All-America Teams, a player
must be named to one of the PING All-District Teams or finish in the
top 15 at the NCAA Championships.
The Oglethorpe men’s golf team placed ninth in the NCAA
Championships this year. In individual rankings, Erb tied for third
and was also honored as the Player of the Year for Division III.
Individually, Green finished tied for seventh.
