Basketball Coach Previews 2004-05 Women’s
Basketball Team ATLANTA - Tentatively,
there could be up to 12 new players joining Oglethorpe University
women’s basketball this season. Head coach Ron Sattele said that
adding so many incoming student athletes to the returning players
could be positive for the team. "Variety will only
help the team," said Coach Sattele of the new prospects. "The large
number of new players plus the returning lettermen will greatly add
to the depth and quality of the program." There are
at least five freshmen planning on joining at this point, and that
number could reach seven before month’s end. Additionally, there are
three freshman fall athletes who have expressed interest in the team
along with one transfer from junior college and sophomore Lauren
Bundy who opted to sit out freshman year to concentrate on her
studies (she starts the year with a 4.0 GPA.) "The
proven strength of this talented group lies in its hard working,
positive attitude and desire to excel," said Coach Sattele of the
returning Petrels. Seniors Julie Colantoni,
Megan Elliot, and Katie Michalczyk lead the returning
group of players, which will also include juniors Stefie Jo
Jannsen, Kirbie Smith, Erin Flynn, Kim Wiley,
Hannah York, sophomore Brittany Corbett.
The freshmen list to date is as follows:
Rachael Edmondson Dalton, Ga.
Amy Fortener Fayetteville, Ga.
Brittany Jenkins Concord, N.C.
Kelly Korell Lawrenceville, Ga
Chiquita Douglas Midville, Ga.
