Two Oglethorpe University Soccer Players Named SCAC Players of
the Week
(For matches played Monday, Oct. 4th through Sunday, Oct. 10th) ATLANTA -- Oglethorpe University soccer players Frank Monteleone and
David Mueller were named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)
Men’s Soccer Players-of-the-Week last week. Monteleone, a sophomore forward from Courtland, N.Y., scored the
game-winner in Friday’s 2-1 win against Sewanee: the University of
the South, Sewanee, Tenn., and he had a goal and an assist in
Sunday’s 3-0 shutout of Centre College, Danville, Ky. Last weekend’s
sweep of Sewanee and Centre is the first time Oglethorpe has
defeated those teams in the same season since 1992. Monteleone now
has nine goals and six assists for 24 points in just 10 games. He is
currently third in the SCAC in goals per game (0.90), assists per
game (0.60) and points per game (2.40). David Mueller, a first-year defender from St. Louis, Mo., was named
SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Co-Player-of-the-Week, along with Danny
Heine of Rhodes College, Memphis, Tenn. Mueller anchored the Stormy
Petrels defense, which gave up just one goal in three wins against
LaGrange, LaGrange, Ga., (4-0); Sewanee (2-1); and Centre (3-0).
Mueller also made a surging late run in which he assisted Frank
Monteleone’s game-winner against Sewanee on Friday.
