Oglethorpe University Hosts Conversation with Playwright Erik
Ehn
ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University and 7 Stages present "The
Language of Madness – A Conversation with Erik Ehn," on Oct. 4 at 7
p.m. in the Talmage Room of Oglethorpe’s Emerson Student Center.
Erik Ehn is an internationally acclaimed playwright, whose starkly
beautiful drama "Maria Kitzito" has its world premiere at 7 Stages
on Sept. 30. The play is based on the true story of a Catholic Hutu
nun in Rwanda, who invites fleeing Tutsis into the sanctuary of her
convent and then systematically oversees their slaughter. Hear a
short excerpt from "Maria Kitzito" and a discussion of the process –
poetic, political and theatrical – with playwright Erik Ehn and
director Del Hamilton. An audience question and answer session, and
artist reception will follow the discussion, moderated by Dr.
Deborah Merola, Oglethorpe Director of Theatre. Tickets for the Oct.
4 event are $7 for guests and free for Oglethorpe faculty, staff and
students with ID. Purchase tickets at
www.7Stages.org or call
404-523-7647.
Oglethorpe University, founded in 1835, has a total enrollment of
approximately 1,100. Its students represent 36 states and 21
countries. The average SAT score is 1200, and 43 percent of the
freshmen graduated in the top ten percent of their high school
classes. Oglethorpe University plays in the NCAA Division III
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Oglethorpe University is a
member of the Annapolis Group, an organization of America’s most
selective 100 liberal arts institutions, the only such institution
in Georgia that is co-educational.
