ATLANTA - Jack Guynn, President and Chief Executive Officer of the
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, will speak at Oglethorpe
University’s 2005 commencement ceremony, to be held Saturday, May
7, 2005, on the Academic Quadrangle at 9:00 a.m.
Guynn will deliver the commencement address and will be
presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
Previous recipients at Oglethorpe commencements have included
Franklin D. Roosevelt, Herbert Lehman, Tom J. Watson, T. Woodrow
Wilson, and more recently Andrew Young, Anne Rivers Siddons, Billy
Payne, Yoel Levi, Zell Miller, S. Truett Cathy, Max Cleland, Miles
Brand, and Samuel F. Pickering.
Named one of the “Most Influential Atlantans” by the Atlanta
Business Chronicle in 2003, Guynn has been president and CEO
of the Federal Reserve and a member of Oglethorpe’s Board of
Trustees since 1996. Guynn also serves on the Advisory Boards of
Furman University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Virginia
Institute of Technology as well as the Carter Center’s board of
councilors. His community involvement includes the Girl Scouts
Council, Boy Scouts Council, Atlanta Rotary Club, the United Way,
and the Chamber of Commerce.
Guynn, who completed the Harvard Business School’s Program for
Management Development, holds a master’s in Industrial Management
from Georgia Tech and a bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering from
Virginia Tech. He has been with the Federal Reserve since 1964,
having responsibility for monetary policy, bank supervision and
regulation over a six-state area.
