ATLANTA - Annie Hunt Burriss will join Oglethorpe
University as associate provost for University College and
deputy to the president for community relations. Oglethorpe is
Atlanta’s only highly selective coeducational liberal arts
college. Burriss comes to Oglethorpe from the Office of the
Governor of the State of Georgia where she served as executive
director of the Governor’s Commission for a New Georgia.
Oglethorpe’s new president Lawrence M. Schall, J.D. Ed.D.
said, “Today is an exciting day for Oglethorpe University. Annie
has a distinguished record of success in everything she has
undertaken. I am thrilled she has agreed to join my staff.
Oglethorpe’s future holds enormous promise, and Annie will play
an integral role in realizing that promise.”
As Associate Provost, Burriss will be directing Oglethorpe's
programs for adult learners, offering a quality academic program
with individualized attention. This includes six baccalaureate
degree completion programs and one master’s degree program
through University College and Oglethorpe's Certified Financial
Planner program. Burriss is charged with increasing enrollment
to meet demands for a highly educated workforce and with
developing outreach initiatives to create additional links
between Oglethorpe and the greater Atlanta area.
"Oglethorpe is an oasis between Buckhead and Perimeter
Center,” Burriss said. “Modeled after Oxford University's Corpus
Christi campus, the classic education provided by Oglethorpe
offers great personal rewards for individuals seeking knowledge
in a safe, beautiful place after work."
Oglethorpe University, founded in 1835, is a member of the
Annapolis Group, an organization of America’s 100 most selective
liberal arts institutions, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference, a ten-member association dedicated to high academic
standards. Oglethorpe is accredited by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools.
