ATLANTA -- August represents a new beginning for many on
college campuses. This August at Oglethorpe, the Theatre
Department launches their fall season with a production of True
West by the newly-founded Atlanta Theatre Laboratory.
Sam Shephard’s contemporary classic True West depicts the
tale of two estranged brothers reunited to housesit their
mother’s ferns. Lee, a drifter, and Austin, a screenwriter,
sling good old American-style resentment as they spar over story
ideas for a new "true to life" Western movie. Heat, whiskey,
crickets, coyotes, toasters, a typewriter and a nine iron litter
the landscape in this production, starring Nick Rhoton and
Matthew Myers and directed by Chadwick Yarborough.
Atlanta Theatre Laboratory, while new to town, is not new to
Oglethorpe. It was founded by former Oglethorpe Playmakers Erin
Weller, Aaron Bean, Kathryn Barrett and Colin Gray with Lauren
Gunderson of Emory.
