Oglethorpe Opens New Residence
Halls
ATLANTA -- The fall semester at Oglethorpe University
 is
off to a great start before it even begins. This Monday, the
university received its certificate of occupancy for the North
and South Residence Halls.
“What a great note to receive first thing Monday morning,”
remarked Oglethorpe President Larry Schall, adding that the
project was completed on time and under budget. “It doesn’t get
much better than that.”
Students are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to occupy the
buildings. “I’m very excited about living in the new dorms,” said
sophomore Jess Graner, a psychology major from Newnan, Georgia. “I
think the private bedrooms will be neat, because each person can
have his or her own space to study and have alone time if needed,
but we also have a nice common room where we can all gather and hang
out.”
There are four students to a suite, which includes four private
bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen space and common living area. The
four-floor granite buildings house 164 students and feature
Oglethorpe’s unique Collegiate Gothic architecture.
Freshmen move in next Saturday, August 27, and upperclassmen
return to campus Sunday, August 28. Resident assistants and fall
athletes will return to campus this week. The $10 million North and
South Halls are reserved for upperclassmen. With the opening of
these two new residence halls, Oglethorpe has just over 500 beds on
campus.
