ATLANTA - Come get the story behind two of 7 Stages’ fall
productions as Oglethorpe University hosts
Conversations with
Directors: Caryl Churchill’s Futuristic Dramas on Monday,
October 24, at 7:00 p.m in the Emerson Student Center.
This fall 7 Stages presents the regional premieres of A
Number, directed by Joe Gfaller, and Far Away,
directed by Melissa Foulger. Both directors will be on hand, as
will 7 Stages’ Artistic Director Del Hamilton and actors from
the productions, to discuss Churchill’s themes in a conversation
facilitated by Deborah Merola, Oglethorpe’s Director of Theatre.
Churchill’s haunting themes are captured by the questions:
“Who are you to yourself if, to the rest of the world, all you
are is… A Number?” and “What if the cries you heard
Far Away in the night as a child were real?” The answers
reveal frightening scenarios involving cloning and
totalitarianism, which will be further explored in an audience
Q&A followed by an artists' reception.
This event, sponsored by Oglethorpe’s Theatre Department and
7 Stages, is part of Oglethorpe’s fall Arts & Ideas season.
Upcoming Arts & Ideas events include Focus on Realism: The
Permanent Collection, on display at the Oglethorpe
University Museum of Art; two harpsichord concerts by David
Buice; the University Singers and University Chorale Fall
Concert; and, to close the season, Oglethorpe’s annual Boar’s
Head Ceremony and Holiday Concert. For date, time and location
