ATLANTA - Oglethorpe University and 7
Stages continue their notable Conversation with Artists
series with playwright Robert Earl Price on February 27 at 7:00
p.m. in the Talmage Room of the Emerson Student Center on
Oglethorpe’s campus (4484 Peachtree Road, N.E., Atlanta).
Oglethorpe Provost Christopher Ames will
facilitate a conversation with Price and Director Del Hamilton
about 7 Stages’ world premiere of Price’s Come On In My
Kitchen. In the play, legendary blues musician Robert
Johnson makes a deal with the devil that catapults him to
celebrity as the country’s greatest blues musician, only to be
poisoned by a jealous husband. This multimedia world premiere,
supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, places Johnson
back at the site of his deal to find some of today’s
African-American celebrities who are less than satisfied with
the outcome of their own bargains.
Price, a graduate of the American Film
Institute, was a 2005 recipient of the National Endowment for
the Arts/Theatre Communications Group’s Theatre Residency
Program for Playwrights, which placed him at 7 Stages where he
developed Come On In My Kitchen. During his three decade
career, Price has won many awards, including the American Film
Institute’s William Wyler Award for screenwriting and a Cultural
Olympics commission for theatre. He remains a playwright in
residence at 7 Stages Theater and continues to participate in
Atlanta’s open mic scene.
