ATLANTA - Oglethorpe University is proud to
present the Grammy nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet in
their Dmitri Shostakovich Centennial Concert on March 14 at 8:00
p.m. in the Conant Performing Arts Center. The concert at
Oglethorpe will feature Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet,
Antonin Dvorák’s American Quartet and Dmitri
Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8.
The St. Petersburg String Quartet, founded in 1985 at the
Leningrad Conservatory, has received first prizes at the
Melbourne, Australia, International Chamber Music Competition,
the Vittorio Gui International Chamber Music Competition and the
All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition. The Boston Globe
calls their Shostakovich “Russian music making at its best.”
The St. Petersburg String Quartet members (Alla Aranovskaya,
first violin; Alla Krolevich, second violin; Boris Vayner,
viola; Leonid Shukayev, cello) are “so in touch with one another
in the ebb and flow of the music that it almost seemed to be
coming from one organism,” writes The Dallas Morning News.
Tickets to the concert are $10 and will only be available at
the door beginning at 7:00 p.m. on March 14. Admission is free
with an Oglethorpe ID. The concert, presented by Oglethorpe’s
department of music, is part of the university’s Arts & Ideas
event series. To see the complete schedule of events, visit
