Tomorrow Greek Ambassador to the United States Alexandros
Mallias will give a lecture on Greece’s foreign policy in the
Oglethorpe University Museum of Art at 11:30 a.m. Ambassador
Mallias will also be joined by Atlanta Consul General for Greece
Lambros Kakissis.
The ambassador will speak on the Balkans, Turkey and the
European Union, all areas that are at the heart of Greece’s
foreign policy. He will also discuss the bilateral relations
between Greece and the United States. His lecture will be
followed by a question-and-answer session.
Ambassador Mallias obtained his bachelor’s degree in
economics from the University of Athens, studied political
science at the University of Geneva and obtained a post-graduate
certificate from the Institut des Hautes Études Européennes.
Prior to assuming the position of ambassador to the United
States in October 2005, he was director of the Southeastern
Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.
During his 30-year career in the Foreign Service, he was
assigned to the United Nations in New York as first counselor
for political affairs, was Greek Ambassador to Albania and
served as chairman of the coordinating committee for the
Balkans.
Ambassador Mallias has been a recent panelist and participant
on Southeastern Europe issues in conferences and seminars. He
has worked closely with think tanks such as the Hellenic
Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (Athens), the Project
on Ethnic Relations (Princeton) and the Conflict Management
Group (Cambridge, Massachusetts).
