A new workshop titled “Counseling Skills: Building and
Maintaining Satisfying Client Relationships” will be offered by
Oglethorpe University’s Certified Financial Planner program
beginning August 30. This class is designed for ambitious
financial professionals who want to acquire new skills to
enhance professional relationships with clients.
“Counseling Skills” is an eight-session course that is designed
to help financial services professionals (including financial
planners, wealth managers, estate planning attorneys and CPAs)
develop their listening skills and learn how to communicate
effectively with their clients and peers. There will be
structured content presented at each class with time for
discussion and interaction.
Topics will include:
• The difference between counseling and using counseling skills
• How to approach a difficult conversation or high conflict
situation
• Active listening skills
• Appropriate responding skills
• The importance of self-awareness when using counseling skills
• The meaning of boundaries and confidentiality and their
significance when using counseling skills

The course will be taught by leading business coach Margo
Geller, the owner and founder of Margo Geller and Associates.
She has created this interactive, results-oriented workshop for
professionals. Students should be prepared for a structured,
