ATLANTA --
The Oglethorpe University community will be part of the 17,000
volunteers expected to join Hands On Atlanta on Saturday,
October 7 as part of Hands On Atlanta Day. Oglethorpe students,
faculty and staff will be volunteering with Centennial Place
Elementary, the Villages of East Lake and Rivers Alive.
The university community will join the students, families and
friends of Centennial Place Elementary in making their school
more beautiful. These Hands On Atlanta volunteers will paint
murals, do landscaping, build benches and redecorate classrooms
from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
The Oglethorpe volunteers will join the Villages of East Lake
in their first community yard fair. “An amazing community
transformation is happening at East Lake, setting a national
standard for locally controlled community development, and I am
proud to have the Oglethorpe community be part of this
transformation,” said Oglethorpe President Lawrence M. Schall.
Volunteers will make crafts, sell food and flea market items,
play games and read stories from noon until 4:00 p.m.
Oglethorpe University will also partner with Rivers Alive, an
agency that educates, motivates and empowers the citizens and
businesses of Roswell in the beautification, conservation and
preservation of our environment. The volunteers will remove
debris and shrubbery from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
