ATLANTA --
The Oglethorpe University Singers and University Chorale perform
a fall concert Friday, November 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the Conant
Performing Arts Center.
The fall concert includes works by Harold Moyers and David
McKay Williams plus folk songs, patriotic music and spirituals
arranged by Warren Martin, Harry T. Burleigh, Fred Prentice and
William Dawson. Ancient and modern madrigals by Palestrina,
Servaes van der Meulen, Mary Lynn Badarak and P.D.Q. Bach are
sung by the eight-member University Chorale.
A special feature of the concert is a performance of
selections from Missa Gaia, a choral mass in celebration of
Mother Earth. These selections showcase student instrumentalists
playing percussion, guitar, flute and horn, as well as vocal
soloists and the full 34-member Oglethorpe University Singers
ensemble. Additional, integral parts of the music are the
recorded voices of wolf, whale and harp seal.
The Oglethorpe University Singers and University Chorale will
perform under guest conductor David Buice with Barbara Luhn,
guest accompanist, and Peggy Benkeser, percussionist. The
concert is free and open to the public. Visit www.oglethorpe.edu
