December at Oglethorpe University Museum of Art brings
Michelangelo, shopping, harpsichord melodies and the closing of
a debut exhibition.
Slow Painting: A Deliberate Renaissance
is a groundbreaking exhibition that explores a new art movement
focused on highly skilled figure painting harkening back to the
Old Masters of Europe it closes December 17.
On December 6 Lloyd Nick, Director of Oglethorpe University
Museum of Art, will discuss The Mysteries and Mysticism of
Michelangelo inside the Skylight Gallery at 7:00 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person and includes admission to the current
exhibition.
The museum gift shop will have a sale and open house on
December 10 from noon until 5:00 p.m. Meet several of the gift
shop's featured artists and enjoy refreshments while shopping.
All visitors may enjoy a 10% discount on gift shop purchases
(excluding previously reduced merchandise).
Finally, on December 17 at 3:00 p.m. David Buice, Oglethorpe
University Harpsichordist-in-Residence, will present Slow
Playing: Meditative Music for Harpsichord. Enjoy the
exhibition's final hours and unwind from holiday pressures
during a recital of reflective, relaxing music for harpsichord.
Featuring works by J. S. Bach, William Byrd, François Couperin
le grand, Louis Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Johannes
Froberger, Peter Phillips and others. General Admission is $15;
museum members and Oglethorpe community are $10 and students are
free.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5:00
p.m. Guided tours are available Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Free and
ample parking is available. Exhibition admission is $5 per
person; museum members, children under 12 and the Oglethorpe
