Oglethorpe Makes Transferring a Little Easier

ATLANTA – Starting fall semester 2007 Oglethorpe University entered into a Transfer Admission Agreement with Georgia Perimeter College. This agreement makes it easier for Georgia Perimeter College students to transfer from a junior college to a four-year institution.

The purpose of this agreement is to minimize barriers for transfer students, to increase the number of students who successfully complete the baccalaureate degree and to strengthen the academic connections between Oglethorpe University and Georgia Perimeter College (GPC). All GPC students with a grade point average of 2.8 or higher in a selection of courses are guaranteed admission to Oglethorpe University after they complete an associate’s degree.

The goals of the agreement are to assist prospective transfer students at Georgia Perimeter College toward completing their bachelors degree; to enable GPC students to follow a course of study that allows them to begin upper-division work immediately upon transfer; to assure GPC students that if they follow the terms of their approved transfer agreement, they are assured admission to Oglethorpe University in the semester agreed upon; and to facilitate cooperation between the counseling offices and the transfer centers at their respective campuses. This agreement also guarantees a smooth and successful transition for GPC honors students into the Oglethorpe Honors Program.

This summer GPC also signed agreements with Clayton College and State University, Clarke Atlanta University, North Georgia College and State University, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University and the University of West Georgia.
