Oglethorpe University is Subject of New Book

ATLANTA – The photographic history Oglethorpe University is one of the newest additions to Arcadia Publishing’s Campus History series. Anne A. Salter, director of Oglethorpe's Philip Weltner Library, and Laura Masce, university archivist, present 200 vintage images to illustrate the past people, places and events of the Atlanta university.

It is the authors’ intention that this book “celebrates Oglethorpe’s unique and exciting stories as well as showcases some of the university’s achievements as one of the outstanding liberal arts universities of the south.”

Highlights of Oglethorpe University:
• Includes information on Oglethorpe’s architecture
• Explains the history of the Presbyterian Church and its role in establishing the university
• Shows photographs of Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he was given an honorary Oglethorpe University degree
• Provides information and photographs of the Crypt of Civilization, one of first modern time capsules
