Jazz Orchestra Performs at Oglethorpe University Museum of Art
ATLANTA – Acclaimed Dutch musicians the Instant Composer’s Pool Orchestra will perform on April 3 in the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art’s Skylight Gallery at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Music in the Museum Series. Joseph Guy Presents, in association with Oglethorpe University Museum of Art and the Department of Music, a series of professional concerts featuring jazz, world and classical music in an intimate and beautiful setting.
Instant Composer’s Pool (ICP) has been at the center of the European jazz/improvised music community for 40 years. Featuring 10 of the top improvisers from Amsterdam's celebrated jazz scene, including pianist and co-founder Misha Mengelberg, reedmen Ab Baars and Tobias Delius, Tristan Honsinger on cello and violinist/violist Mary Oliver, the ICP Orchestra brings drama, wit and virtuosity into freely improvised music. The visual highlight of the group is master percussionist and co-founder Han Bennink, whose playful willingness to apply his drumsticks to any surface adds to the ICP's infectious, rambunctious fun.
The Music in the Museum Series provides Atlanta audiences with an informative and entertaining interaction with varied professional touring musicians. Patrons and performers alike are surrounded by beautiful works of art in the candlelit gallery providing an enchanting environment for mutual exploration of the artist’s repertoire, style and instrumental mastery. Guests will enjoy OUMA’s current exhibition Sordid and Sacred: The Beggars in Rembrandt’s Etchings and a wine reception preceding each performance.
General admission tickets for the ICP Orchestra are $35, $30 and $15. For more information and reservations please call 404.364.8551.
