Lectures, Music and Rembrandt

ATLANTA – March at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (OUMA) brings lectures on the life of Rembrandt, Bach Trio-Sonatas and Japanese rock gardens all with a backdrop of Sordid and Sacred: The Beggars in Rembrandt’s Etchings, 35 selections from the John Villarino collection.

On Thursday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Gary Schwartz, Director/Curator of Dutch Art – Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage, recognized world Rembrandt scholar and author of Rembrandt: His Life, His Paintings will speak about the current exhibition. Admission is $10 and free for OUMA members and students.

On Sunday, March 4 John Villarino, the collector of the current OUMA exhibition of Rembrandt etchings will speak on the details of his collection at 3:00 p.m. General admission is $10 and free for OUMA members and students.

On Sunday, March 11 OUMA presents the Atlanta Camerata Recital: J.S. Bach Trio-Sonatas, at 4:00 p.m. The recital features Nancy Shechter on violin, Olga McNeill on flute, George Butler on cello and Raisa Parmentier on harpsichord. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for museum members and Oglethorpe community.

Finally, on Wednesday, March 28 photographer, videographer and professor of philosophy at the University of Hawaii, Graham Parkes, will feature a lecture and slide presentation on Rocks and the Japanese Garden at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10 and free for OUMA members and students.
