Award-Winning Pianist Performs at Oglethorpe
ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University presents the Gold Medal Winner of the 2006 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, Stephen Beus, in his Atlanta debut on Friday, February 16, in the Conant Performing Arts Center at 8:00 p.m.
The globally respected Gina Bachauer competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, involves the finest young pianists from around the world in a multi-day competition before a panel of renowned judges. The Oglethorpe Music Department has hosted each of their top prize winners in an Atlanta debut piano concert since 1989.
Concert selections include, Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, BWV 903 by J.S. Bach, Sonata in E Major, Op. 6 by Mendelssohn, Sonata (1918) and Fantasy Pieces, Op. 6 by Charles Griffes, Excursion Op. 20 #3 and #4 plus Sonata in E-flat Minor, Op. 26 by Samuel Barber. Beus is also the winner of the Grand Prize at the Vendome Competition in Lisbon, Portugal and was recently named a Steinway Artist.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram calls him a pianist “with artistic instinct and natural charisma.” His artistry may be heard in recordings on the Endeavor Classics and the Harmonia Mundi labels.
