Rodin and Related Poetry Investigated

ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University Museum of Art presents Rodin, Rilke and the Poetics of Sculpture by Oglethorpe director of study abroad and professor of art history and anthropology Jeffrey Collins, Thursday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Earl Dolive Theater inside the Philip Weltner Library (4484 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, 30319).

This lecture will explore the Eros and spirit in the sculpture of Rodin, investigate the famous Gates of Hell and the spiritual eroticism in some of Rodin’s sculpture, and Collins will read and translate related poems by Rainier Maria Rilke, Rodin's secretary. The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art is proud to present Rodin: In His Own Words, Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation now through November 17. The exhibition brings together 36 of Rodin’s sculptures which paired with his writings present a vibrant image of Rodin’s important artistic legacy. The museum will be open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. Free and ample parking is available.
