Oglethorpe Singers On Air And In Concert

ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe University Singers and University Chorale are preparing to entertain you in January.

On Monday, January 28, the University Singers and University Chorale will be featured on WABE’s The Atlanta Music Scene, which airs from 9:00 until 10:00 p.m. The program will air the University Singers and Chorale’s performance of Edwin Robertson's Ten Songs on Poems of Sidney Lanier, from their spring 2007 concert. This concert pays homage to the 1860 Oglethorpe University graduate and renowned poet Sidney Lanier. The composition, commissioned by the university for the Singers on the 150th anniversary of Lanier's birth, premiered on campus in spring 1992 with the composer present.

Selection for this once-per-week broadcast is by a jury of professional musicians who review local concerts and make choices based on the quality of performance, depth of content and impact on Atlanta's performing arts scene. Dr. Thomas Anderson, the producer of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts for National Public Radio, is the producer for this program. “I am particularly gratified, and of course, proud of our students – since collegiate-level performances are not often chosen for this honor,” said Dr. W. Irwin Ray, Jr., Oglethorpe’s director of musical activities.

WABE, an Atlanta affiliate of National Public Radio, can be heard at 90.1 FM or www.wabe.org. The Singers and Chorale were first heard on The Atlanta Music Scene in fall 2005.
