Summerville Scholar Wins Study Abroad Scholarship
ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University senior Shanequa Shuler received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education. The scholarship enables her to spend six months studying abroad in Spain.
“Knowing another language is really necessary in today’s workforce,” she explains. Shanequa is double majoring in Spanish and politics. “I want to help a wide range of people as a lawyer. So it’s an important quality to have in business. Plus, Spanish is fun!”
One of Shanequa’s favorite classes was on Eva Perón and Che Guevara. “It was hard, but so good,” she remembers. “You could tell [Associate Professor of Spanish] Dr. Plotnik was so passionate about it. I can’t remember ever going that in-depth on any subject matter.”
When Shanequa returns to the states, she will apply to law schools for fall 2008 admission. She looks forward to a long career in entertainment law. |
