The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art presented Before and After Gauguin: The Art of Printmaking in Brittany 1740 to 1940 from February 3 until May 11. This exceptional exhibition included, 100 prints from private French collections, the first print made in Brittany, France, demonstrates how the renowned French artist Paul Gauguin influenced and changed the direction of the great printmaking tradition in Brittany. In the late nineteenth century, Gauguin was drawn to the creative innovations of the artists’ colonies of Pont-Aven and Le Pouldu, where he made a profound impact on the art of printmaking.
