University Welcomes New Trustees
ATLANTA–Oglethorpe University is proud to announce John Frederick Agel ’52, Robert Andrew Milford ’99, Thomas O’Connor ’67, Joseph Shelton ’91, Patricia Upshaw-Monteith, Terry White and Ken Yarbrough as new members of the Board of Trustees.
John Frederick (Fred) Agel, Sr. ’52 is a retired sales agent for Bowman Distribution. He has been very active as a volunteer with the university for many years including a stint as President of the Oglethorpe National Alumni Association Board. He is a 1985 inductee to the Oglethorpe Athletic Hall of Fame, and a 1987 recipient of the Talmage Award. Fred has been a generous donor to the university over the years, and has established The J. Frederick Agel ’52 Endowed Scholarship. He is also active with his church, St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal. Fred and his wife Cathy reside in Atlanta.
Robert Andrew (Andy) Milford ’90 is CEO and chief software architect of Dorian Software Creations, Inc. Dorian is a leading developer of network security software utilities for Microsoft-based networks worldwide. Andy founded Dorian Software from his dorm room while a student at Oglethorpe. Andy and his wife Stephanie reside in Marietta. Andy is being nominated to the Oglethorpe University Board of Trustees as a Young Alumni Representative.
Thomas O’Connor ’67 is executive vice president and president of sales and marketing for Springs Global, a manufacturer and marketer of textile home furnishings. The American arm of the company is based in Fort Mill, SC. Tom and his wife, Ginia, live in Charlotte, N.C.
Joseph Shelton ’91 is a partner with the law firm Fisher & Phillips LLP. Joe litigates employment matters and provides counseling and training to clients on employment issues. He is the former President of the Oglethorpe National Alumni Association and served as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees in that capacity. Joe and his wife Andrea ’91 live in Atlanta with their children Spencer and Abby.
Patricia Upshaw-Monteith is the executive director of Leadership Atlanta. Pat received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University and her bachelor's from Albany State University. She served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross. She was recently appointed to the DeKalb County Department of Family and Children Services Board for a four-year term. She is also a member of the Rotary Club of Atlanta, an Advisory Board member of the Junior League of Atlanta, a member of the United Way of Atlanta's Cole Society Board and is past Board Chair of the Georgia Center for Children. Pat and her husband, Frank, reside in Atlanta.
Terry White is retired president, Remanufacturing Division, of Genuine Parts. He is currently a member of Oglethorpe University’s President’s Advisory Council. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Michelle.
Ken Yarbrough is a senior vice president and director of Retirement Strategies at SunTrust Banks. Before joining SunTrust, Ken was a partner and Director of Account Management at WestWayne, the seventh largest U.S. private ad agency. Ken has long been active in Atlanta civic and non-profit organizations, and currently serves on the boards of the American Red Cross and The Center for Ethics and Corporate Responsibility at Georgia State University. He is married, has three sons, and enjoys golf, travel and politics.
