South Atlanta High School Students Get Familiar with College
ATLANTA - Oglethorpe University’s Center for Civic Engagement would like to announce its first high school partner. South Atlanta High School of Law and Social Justice will now join Ed S. Cook Elementary, Charles R. Drew Charter School and PATH Academy as one of the university’s educational partners.
To kick off the partnership, a member of the Oglethorpe admission staff conducted a workshop on college admissions for the South Atlanta teachers. Two student groups from South Atlanta High School of Law and Social Justice will also visit the Oglethorpe campus and participate in sessions on preparing for college, have lunch with Oglethorpe students and go on a campus tour on March 26 and April 23, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
These campus visits are sponsored by Oglethorpe’s Center for Civic Engagement. The center focuses on four key areas of service: education, environment, health and wellness and homelessness and hunger. The educational partners have offered unique opportunities for Oglethorpe students to learn about the needs of a community while the younger students learn about a university environment.
Last month Oglethorpe University was named to the U.S. President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for distinguished community service and for exemplary service to disadvantaged youth. This is Oglethorpe’s second year in a row on this prestigious national list. For more information please call 404.504.1978. |
