Third Alternative Spring Break Trip
Sponsored by Center for Civic Engagement
ATLANTA – College students from Oglethorpe University are again turning away from more familiar notions of spring break – partying, home cooking and sleeping late – in favor of lending a hand to Georgia’s coastal region. Students and members of the Oglethorpe community will travel to Savannah Sunday, March 16, at 9:00 a.m. and return Friday, March 21, at 5:00 p.m.
This is the university’s third alternative spring break trip lead by the university’s Center for Civic Engagement. Oglethorpe volunteers will work directly with Hands On Savannah, lending their time and energy to America’s Second Harvest Food Bank, Fort Pulaski National Monument and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia.
Earlier this month Oglethorpe University was named to the U.S. President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for distinguished community service and for exemplary service to disadvantaged youth. This is Oglethorpe’s second year in a row on this prestigious national list.

Located in Atlanta and founded in 1835, Oglethorpe enrolls over 1,000 students representing 34 states and 36 countries. The university plays in the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Princeton Review’s The Best 366 Colleges 2008 edition ranks Oglethorpe in its prestigious list and also names it a Best Southeastern College. Oglethorpe University is Georgia’s only coeducational member of the Annapolis Group, an organization of America’s most selective liberal arts institutions.
