Atlanta University Serves Cabbagetown

ATLANTA – Tomorrow Oglethorpe University’s Center for Civic Engagement will partner with Hands On Atlanta to help continue rebuilding Cabbagetown. From 9:00 a.m. until noon Oglethorpe student volunteers will remove debris from last month’s tornado.

In the wake of the tornadoes, Hands On Atlanta has joined the Cabbagetown Community Improvement Association in meeting the immediate needs of affected residents. The project location is the Cabbagetown Community Center (177 Estoria St. Atlanta, GA 30316).

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) focuses on four key areas of service: education, environment, health and wellness and homelessness and hunger. Over the past two years CCE has sponsored and organized the university’s service efforts at many Atlanta locations, such as, PATH Academy, Centennial Place Elementary, the Villages of East Lake, Rivers Alive, MedShare, Dunwoody Nature Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, Ed S. Cook Elementary, Charles R. Drew Charter School and South Atlanta High School of Law and Social Justice, to name a few.

Oglethorpe University was recently named to the U.S. President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for distinguished community service and for exemplary service. This is Oglethorpe’s second year in a row on this prestigious national list. Call 404.364.1977 for more information.
