Oglethorpe Helps Build a College Pipeline

ATLANTA – Friday, February 22, 100 Charles R. Drew Charter School sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will participate in the Junior Achievement College Pipeline Program at Oglethorpe University from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Junior Achievement of Atlanta and the Dunwoody Rotary are collaborating with Oglethorpe University’s Center for Civic Engagement to send students from Drew Charter to participate in sessions about how to get into and succeed in college. Sessions on admissions, financial aid and workforce preparation, will be followed by lunch and campus tours lead by Oglethorpe students.

Charles R. Drew Charter School, teaching 850 pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students in East Lake, is Atlanta’s first charter school. The Center for Civic Engagement has started partnerships with four local schools: Charles R. Drew Charter School, Ed S. Cook Elementary School, Path Academy and South Atlanta School of Law & Social Justice.

CCE integrates classroom learning with experiences throughout Atlanta, supporting the community while enhancing the university’s academic offerings. The center also coordinates initiatives to support faculty and students as they integrate classroom learning with community experiences through service-learning, internships, partnerships and meetings with some of the city’s most influential leaders.
