Comedic Opera at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University’s department of music hosts the Capitol City Opera Company’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale March 14 through 15 at 8:00 p.m. and March 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Conant Performing Arts Center on Oglethorpe’s campus.

Don Pasquale is a three-act comedy of love and deception sung in English. The plot follows a ruse played by Ernesto and Norina, a pair of lovers, upon Ernesto’s uncle and guardian, Don Pasquale, who wants to disinherit his “good-for-nothing” nephew. Luckily the clever Doctor Malatesta is on hand to hatch a plan involving a secret tryst, a little disguise, a sham marriage and a shrewd bride in order to teach Pasquale a valuable lesson and save Ernesto and Norina's future.

Under the artistic direction of Capitol City Opera founder Donna Angel. Michael Nutter, stage director; Russell Young, musical director and conductor; Pete Cutter, production design. Music by Gaetano Donizetti and libretto by Giovanni Ruffini. Tickets: $25 general admission; $20 for senior citizens and students. Reserve your seat now through Capitol City Opera Company (678-301-8013 or www.ccityopera.com). A free lecture will be provided before each performance.
