Local Professor and Politicos Encourage Women to Run for Office
ATLANTA – Dr. Kendra A. King, associate professor of politics and director of the Rich Foundation Urban Leadership Program at Oglethorpe University will moderate the opening panel of the The White House Project's Georgia Go Run conference held at Agnes Scott College (141 East College Ave., Decatur 30030) on July 18, at 7:00 p.m. The Women Helping Women Win panel of Georgia elected officials includes Atlanta City Council President Lisa Borders, Secretary of State Karen Handel, former Congresswoman Denise Majette and others.
King and the panel will discuss the importance of women in the political process, tell stories about influential women in their lives and give advice to the women of Georgia interested in starting a campaign. Dr. King is the author of African-American Politics (Polity Press) and a chapter entitled "Let's Get It Started" in the book Service-Learning With Government Partners (Jossey-Bass Publishing Company).
Georgia Go Run is a nonpartisan political leadership training for women throughout Georgia. Go Run hopes to inspire women to step into leadership roles.The Georgia Go Run conference will inform local women about campaign work and demystify the political process.The conference will equip women with the skills it takes to run for elected office and win. Georgia Go Run is for women at every stage of political involvement – from building a campaign this year, next year, in ten years or just getting more civically involved.
