Hebrew and Mandarin Chinese Offered at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA –Oglethorpe University is pleased to offer non-credit language courses in Hebrew, Mandarin Chinese, French, Italian and Spanish. Participation in these courses is open to the general public; enrollment in an Oglethorpe degree program is not required. Each class is limited to 25 students, so register early!

Conversational Hebrew I will be available May 15 through June 26 on Thursdays from 8:05 until 9:35 p.m. Unlike Biblical Hebrew, Modern Hebrew is used in daily conversations and contemporary literature. You will learn how to introduce yourself and others; how to shop in supermarkets and malls; how to order food and how not to get lost. You will also learn how to read and write. The class will listen to short dialogues, enjoy singing and learn some aspects of Israeli culture.

Mandarin Chinese I is available May 6 through June 17 on Tuesdays from 8:05 until 9:35 p.m. This course is a conversational approach to Mandarin Chinese. The course text is Chinese in Ten Minutes a Day by Christine Kershuel.

Speaking French I will be available May 15 through June 26 on Thursdays from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Taught in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, this class provides an excellent basis for further study in French. No prerequisites are required.
Italian Language and Culture I will be available May 14 through June 25 on Wednesdays from 8:05 until 9:35 p.m. Designed for beginners, the Italian-for-travel courses can help you become more confident in your upcoming journey. Practice asking for directions, ordering food and making purchases. Taught in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, this class provides an excellent basis for further study in Italian.

Speaking Spanish I will be held May 13 through June 24 on Tuesdays from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Want to communicate with Hispanic colleagues? This course is for you and your employees. The conversational approach has you speaking Spanish from day one. It’s practical, fun and effective. The class will cover grammatical notes and touch on cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries, including business etiquette.

Speaking Spanish II will be held May 13 through June 25 on Wednesdays from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. A continuation of Spanish I, with emphasis on grammar, sentence structure, commands and the simple past tense. Course includes Spanish conversation in each class.

The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
