University Singers Partner with The Georgia Philharmonic
ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe University department of music and The Georgia Philharmonic will join together for two moving nights of music. The Oglethorpe University Singers and University Chorale will perform a spring concert on Friday, April 18, and The Georgia Philharmonic will perform Saturday, April 26, both in the Conant Performing Arts Center at 8:00 p.m.
The annual University Singers and University Chorale concert will feature J. S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 79: Gott, der Herr, ist Sonn und Schild with The Georgia Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and guest soloists Anne-Marie Spalinger, soprano; Donna Carter, mezzo-soprano; and Stephen Ozcomert, bass-baritone. Additional selections by various composers, student soloists and ensembles will round out the program. Oglethorpe University director of music, Dr. W. Irwin Ray, Jr. will conduct. Free admission; no reservations required.
The Georgia Philharmonic program will include J. S. Bach’s Cantata BWW 79 with the Oglethorpe University Singers, as well as Gerald Finzi’s Romance, Op. 11 and Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 Op. 68. This concert features Philip Rice, conductor, and guest soloists. Tickets: $30 prime seating/$20 general admission/$15 senior citizens and students.
